Kaoru Watanabe is an innovative taiko drum and shinobue bamboo flute musician who has worked with various talents includingYo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble and living national treasure, Tamasaburo Bando. Watanabe’s work combines the timbres and essence of traditional Japanese music with improvisational concepts of American jazz. In his new album “Néo”, Watanabe combines the sounds of old Japan with rhythms and improvisational techniques from around the world. The album includes new interpretations on old rhythms with an equilibrium of melodies and tones.
