Kaoru Watanabe, composer and Japanese shinobue flutist and taiko drummer, celebrates the release of his new album Néo. Watanabe combines the sounds of old Japan with rhythms and improvisational techniques from across the globe to create a performance that ranges from the physically dynamic to quiet introspection. He has performed with such notables as Silk Road Ensemble, So Percussion and Jason Moran and was the former director of Japan's premier taiko group Kodo.
